What the scan checks
Our automated browser opens the page you enter, the way any visitor would, and runs an open-source accessibility engine (axe-core) over it. You get a report that says what is wrong, who it affects and how to fix it, in plain English.
- Images with no text description.
- Buttons and links that a screen reader announces with no useful name, such as icon-only cart or menu buttons.
- Form fields with no label, such as newsletter and search boxes.
- Colour contrast that is too low to read, such as pale grey text or sale badges.
- Page structure, such as skipped headings and missing landmarks.
Where Shopify stores commonly go wrong
Themes and third-party apps change often, and small changes can undo earlier fixes. Problems we would look for first are icon-only buttons in the header and cart, product images with no alt text, low-contrast price and sale text, unlabeled email sign-up fields, and menus or cart drawers that a keyboard user cannot operate.
Try it yourself: press Tab repeatedly on your store's home page. If you can't see where you are, or you get stuck, so will some of your customers.
What a scan can't tell you
Automated scanning finds only part of the accessibility problems on a page. It can't judge whether an image description is meaningful, whether captions are accurate, or whether a checkout is easy to use with a screen reader. Treat the report as a starting point, and test the checkout path by keyboard as well. Lintel is not legal advice and does not guarantee compliance with any law or standard.

Does it cost anything?
The scan is free. Code-level fixes for Shopify themes are still being built, and early-access members hear about pricing first.
Do I need to install an app or give you access to my store?
No. We only visit the public page address you enter.
What happens to my email address?
We use it to send your report and to update you about Lintel. We don't sell or share it. To have it deleted, write to hello@attestive.io.
